Mihai Eminescu (1850–1889) is widely regarded as Romania’s national poet and one of the most influential figures in Romanian literature. His poetry, characterized by its lyrical beauty, philosophical depth, and romanticism, explores themes of love, nature, history, and existential reflection. Eminescu’s most famous work, Luceafărul, is considered a masterpiece of European poetry, blending mythology, romance, and cosmic imagery. Born in Botoșani, Romania, Eminescu showed an early passion for literature and philosophy. He studied in Vienna and Berlin, where he was influenced by German Romanticism, classical literature, and the works of Schopenhauer and Kant.
