Histria Books is pleased to announce the release of Miss Henderson’s Secret by June Calvin. This novel is published by Histria Romance, an imprint of Histria Books dedicated to outstanding books in the romance genre.
In Miss Henderson’s Secret, a Regency governess hiding from an abusive husband accidentally inspires her teenage pupil to flee an arranged marriage. The rebellion forces Eden into a reluctant alliance with Roger Brentwood, the notorious Earl of Dudley and the exact man whose radical essays sparked the girl’s flight.
Pairing forced proximity with a sharp look at autonomy, the story brilliantly flips the classic protector trope. Eden is a pragmatic survivor clinging to her hard-won independence, while Brentwood is a rare historical hero who respects her boundaries rather than bulldozing them. Bypassing traditional society ballrooms to navigate hidden identities and real danger, it delivers a deeply satisfying slow burn between two equals. It is a fresh, historically precise romance where the banter, and the modern conversation about power and consent, is just as sharp as the stakes.
June Calvin is the author of twelve Regency romances, including her debut novel, The Baron and the Bookseller, which won the Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart award in 1993. Before finding her true calling as a novelist, Calvin held a diverse array of professional roles, drawing on experiences as a teacher, public relations professional, newspaper reporter, and museum educator. She currently resides in Oklahoma with her husband of 62 years, where she enjoys life near her son, daughter-in-love, and young grandson.
