Histria Books is pleased to announce the release of The Silvery Moon by Edith Layton. This novel is published by Histria Romance, an imprint of Histria Books dedicated to outstanding books in the romance genre.

The Silvery Moon brings an unexpected emotional intelligence to the classic historical romance, colliding the artificial world of a touring theater company with the dusty reality of the American West. The story follows Hannah Roberts, an acting teacher guarding a traumatic past, and Gray Dylan, a wealthy rancher seeking a true equal.

What sets this reissue apart is how Layton tackles the psychology of intimacy. Instead of leaning on standard courtship tropes, the novel confronts Hannah’s internalized shame from a disastrous previous marriage and the slow, deliberate work required to rebuild trust. It reads as a highly sensitive exploration of female autonomy and the terror of vulnerability, all set against the glamorous chaos of nineteenth century stagecraft. Today’s readers will find a romance that feels remarkably modern in its emotional mechanics, delivering a masterclass in character driven healing rather than sheer melodrama.

Edith Layton (1938-2009) grew up in Queens, New York, and began writing when she was ten years old. She worked as a freelance writer for newspapers and magazines before publishing her first novel, The Duke’s Wager. She won numerous awards, starting in 1984 with The Romantic Times Award for Best New Regency Author and The Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award: Best New Regency Author. She went on to publish over 30 novels and many more short stories. Edith Layton also published under her married name, Edith Felber. She was married for over 35 years to her physician husband, Dr. Norbert Felber, and produced three loving children, one of whom is writing this bio.
