The Natural Diet by Andres Digenio now available from Histria Books

Histria Books is pleased to announce the release of The Natural Diet by Andres Digenio. This book is published by Histria Perspectives, an imprint dedicated to publishing outstanding works of nonfiction that illuminate history, culture, and society.

The Natural Diet follows Brenda, a busy professional confronting type 2 diabetes and the confusing promises of modern diet culture. Rather than selling a punishing regimen or a miracle fix, the book asks a more useful question: what happens when people build their lives around real food, manageable movement, and habits they can actually sustain?

Digenio brings nutrition science down to earth through a relatable family story, clear-eyed comparisons of popular eating plans, and practical attention to the forces that shape everyday choices: work, fatigue, cravings, convenience, and the omnipresence of ultra-processed food. The result is not another set of food rules, but a humane argument for progress over perfection. At a moment when many readers are exhausted by nutritional noise and anxious about chronic disease, The Natural Diet offers a grounded, evidence-aware alternative that respects both the body and the realities of ordinary life today.

Praise for The Natural Diet:

“Finally, we have a diet book written for the general public that obesity experts can endorse. The Natural Diet is evidence-based, easy to read and understand, attractively illustrated and accessible. This book is packed with proven tools and techniques to achieving and sustaining weight loss, while improving the quality of the diet and physical activity.”

— Donna H. Ryan, MD. Professor Emerita. Pennington Biomedical Research Center

Dr. Andres Digenio is a Montevideo-born physician-scientist whose work spans lifestyle medicine, obesity and diabetes management, and preventive cardiology. He holds an MD from Universidad de la República, a BSc (Hon) in Sports Medicine, and a PhD in Exercise Physiology from the University of Cape Town, and is board-certified in Preventive Medicine in the United States. His career has included cardiac rehabilitation leadership in South Africa, work at Vanderbilt University’s obesity clinic, and the development of PulseStep, a web-based lifestyle program for weight loss and heart health. A longtime advocate for reducing ultra-processed foods without restrictive fads, Digenio created The Natural Diet as an evidence-informed approach to everyday eating.
