About This Book

The German Officer's Secret (A World War II Romance) by Orit Raz is available for preorder. It will ship on or before its release date of November 17, 2026.

A forbidden romance, a stolen identity, and a city caught in the crossfire. Can love survive when every secret could mean life or death?

Warsaw, 1942. The city is a maze of fear, hunger, and whispered betrayals. David Klein, once a Jewish law student, now wears the uniform of a German officer, his only shield against certain death. Each day, he walks a razor’s edge, haunted by memories, hunted by the past, desperate to stay one step ahead of the Gestapo.

Then there’s Kasya, a young Polish woman with a sharp mind and a battered heart. She’s lost nearly everything, but refuses to give up hope. When a chance meeting in the Saxon Gardens throws her together with the mysterious “Heinrich,” their connection sparks with danger and longing. She needs protection. He needs a way out. But trust is a luxury neither can afford.

As the city tightens under Nazi rule, secrets pile up. Every knock at the door could shatter the fragile world they’ve built. Temptation, guilt, and the shadow of betrayal hang in the air.

For readers who love the tension and emotional punch of The Nightingale, this is a story where every heartbeat counts, and the smallest kindness can change the course of fate. Will courage be enough when love itself becomes the greatest risk of all?

About the Author → Full Profile

Orit Raz is an Israeli author. She was born in Israel. She has written around 50 children's and young adult books, some of which have won awards, including the Hans Christian Andersen Award honor. In recent years, she has also begun writing for adults. So far, she has published three novels for adults. Her parents are not Holocaust survivors. The story The German Officer's Secret... She heard it from her husband’s father, Israel Frayon, who survived the Holocaust during World War II. After the war, during the High Holidays, having lost his entire family, Israel wished to recreate the atmosphere of the home that had been destroyed. He decided to spend the holiday in a Jewish synagogue, where he met other Jewish refugees like himself. During the break between prayers, the refugees told one another how they had survived. The story described in my book was the most astonishing among them. It left the listeners speechless. Everyone saw the surprising ending as a miracle. The book received an award in Israel from the Ghetto Fighters' House Museum.
