Ion Creanga

About the Author

Ion Creanga — Ion Creangă (1837–1889) was a Romanian writer, educator, and storyteller whose vivid depictions of rural life and use of folkloric language made him a cornerstone of Romanian literature. Born in the village of Humulești in Moldavia, Creangă began his career as a teacher and deacon before joining the literary circle Junimea in Iașk, where his distinctive voice flourished. His best-known work, Amintiri din copilărie (Memories of My Childhood), blends humor, warmth, and keen social observation to capture the spirit of 19th-century peasant life. Alongside his beloved folk tales, Creangă’s writings helped preserve Romania’s oral traditions and shaped the nation’s modern literary identity.
