Silence and Circumstance by Roy Dimond

Agatha Christie: Pawn or Puppet-Master?

For eleven days in December 1926, all of England buzzed with one question: Was Agatha Christie kidnapped, a pawn ensnared in an international mystery? Or was she the puppet-master, orchestrating an elaborate game from behind her typewriter?

Did one of the most disciplined minds in literary history truly “black out”—only to reappear, dazed and frail, at a spa hotel? And what secrets lay hidden in her missing diary about those enigmatic eleven days?

Through a blend of fact and fiction, Silence and Circumstance unravels this mystery through the eyes of Charlotte “Carlo” Fisher, Agatha’s governess and confidante. Spurred on by a cryptic letter, Charlotte sets off on a dangerous quest that entwines her with some of the 20th century’s most iconic figures.

As Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and a young Ian Fleming hurtle towards Istanbul aboard the Orient Express, searching for the elusive diary, Charlotte follows a trail that leads her to Berlin—a city teetering on the brink of chaos. Along the way, shadowy societies surface, hinting at a dark force on the rise.
